GAME 8 - JUNE 23, 2000

JAZZY'S  11,  500 CLUB  10

RECORD 2-4

That settles it - we MUST be the "team to beat" in this league.  There is incontrovertible evidence!!  I mean, the way the opponents piled on each other like they just won the f***ing Olympics or cured world hunger convinced me that they had defeated the champions.  Tell you what - anyone who purposely hits a ball to a less experienced right fielder has every right to do so.  Part of the game, I believe.  My solution is to do it right the hell back.  Line one right at the timid third basewoman if you must.  But to then pile on each other as if something grandiose was accomplished is more arrogant than celebratory.  Cheers to all my teammates who refrained from the high fives this week.

Side notes:  we had our five women this week, giving poor Deb a rest behind the plate.  Jack struck out three batters in a two inning span - good work!  Laurie Levy was the unlikely hitting hero in the top of the ninth, when, with the DPW team trailing 10-8, she lashed a grounder to third that she was able to beat out. The subsequent overthrow allowed the additional game-tying run to score.  In the bottom of the inning, the game winner scored on a bases-loaded single.  YES SINGLE!  Despite the arrogance of the opponents insistence, the final score is 11-10, not 14-10.  The last shot was over Mike's head in left and NOT A HOME RUN!!! REPEAT NOT A HOME RUN!!  Thus according to rules, only the first sniveling, wise-ass run across the plate counts.

Thank God only one team showed up at the bar that night.....
